[Report] After-School Creative Project

On Tuesday, October 2, we held a workshop titled “Designing Shapes That Create Movement” at Wakuwaku Yoiwa Hiroba!

Can you see air?
Just how much power does air have?
Even though air is always around us,
we probably haven’t really thought about it that much…?

This time, we all took on the challenge of “creating a mechanism that uses the power of air to make a car move”!

We came up with ideas like connecting paper plates to create a mechanism resembling a sailboat’s sail, building a high-speed contraption using just one paper cup and a single sheet of paper, and designing cars that were strictly white.
We also discovered that by changing how we fanned—whether with big, sweeping motions or quick, small ones—the way the cars moved was completely different!
After finishing, in addition to holding a race, the kids came up with a new game called “Car Sumo.” It was a wonderful moment.

Some children focused on increasing their car’s speed, while others took their time carefully decorating theirs.
Once again, we were able to discover many unique perspectives that each child values.
Please be sure to check out the photos!

After the workshop, I spotted the children and teachers happily playing tag on the playground, and I headed home feeling very happy.
