- Tokyo Metropolitan Komyo Gakuen × Kids Programming Supporters
We have summarized and published the results of a pilot project conducted by CANVAS, the Tokyo Metropolitan Komyo Gakuen, and Kids Programming Supporters as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ initiative to promote programming education among young people: “Connections with Society and Programming—A Pilot Study on Programming Education Within the Curriculum for Junior High and High School Students Attending Special Needs Schools for Students with Physical Disabilities.”

In collaboration with teachers from the Tokyo Metropolitan Komyo Gakuen and local volunteers—the Kids Programming Supporters (*)—we conducted four lessons that emphasized connections with society.
Through programming and hands-on creation,
through the use of assistive input devices and adapted teaching materials,
and through interaction with adults working in the business world,
we engaged in programming learning designed to deepen students’ understanding of their academic subjects. We used teaching materials tailored to the students’ learning needs, including “Hour of Code” for learning programming basics, the micro:bit educational microcontroller board, and Kinect, which uses body movements as a controller.
We’ve compiled presentation materials and lesson plans for each class, so we hope you’ll find them useful!
This school year, we will continue to collaborate with Komyo Gakuen as external instructors to further enrich our students’ learning.
Please stay tuned for our upcoming initiatives!
