Second Annual National Programming Competition for Elementary and Middle School Students Held

We're hosting the National Elementary and Middle School Programming Competition again this year!

The “First National Programming Competition for Elementary and Junior High School Students,” held in the summer of 2016, was the first nationwide programming contest focused on
elementary and junior high school students, and it attracted 130 entries
. We have decided to hold the second edition of
this competition again this year. The “Second National Elementary and Junior High School
Programming Contest” will be held with the support (all
tentatively scheduled) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications; and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and will be even more substantial than last year’s event.
On Friday, March 10, starting at 3:00 PM, we will hold
an announcement event (including the reveal of the theme) and a commemorative talk at the Ito International Center for Academic Research on the University of Tokyo campus. In addition to remarks from our
supporting organizations and sponsors, we will welcome as a guest speaker Mitsuru Sugaya, the manga artist and author of *Hello, Microcomputer*—
a book that introduced many children to programming in the 1980s—who continues to dedicate his efforts to introducing people to
programming today.

We look forward to seeing you there.
