[Hachilabo Workshop Report: March 5] A
special exhibition currently on view at
the
Shibuya City Children’s Science Center Hachilabo, running through the end of this month, March 30:“Dr. Harada’s Room of Wonders: Research on Computers and How to Find Fun in This World”
http://canvas.ws/workshop/12661に関連したワークショップ第 Part 2 was held today.
●During the morning session,
first- through third-grade elementary school students took on a "Biscuit" workshop.
In "Biscuit," instead of giving verbal instructions, participants use a pair of glasses to move illustrations around.
Within the short 45-minute timeframe,
each group created their own worlds—a
space world, a ghost world, and a candy world.
●During
the afternoon session, students from 4th grade through middle school used programming to create kaleidoscope patterns. This was done using a new app created by Dr.
Harada.
(*This app is available exclusively at the HachiLab exhibition and workshops.)
Let's start
by "drawing a shape on paper that looks like a heart when reflected in a mirror."
After
experiencing how the world looks different depending on the number and angle of the mirrors, we’ll finally move on to creating patterns through programming.
In her artwork, the drawings she created came
to life through the “glasses” familiar from the
Biscuit series, and as their images were repeated in numerous “mirrors,” a world unfolded that was even more
vibrant and full of light, lively rhythms
than a kaleidoscope.
