"Mirai Rikejo" (2/12) Report

Today, “Mirai Rikujo” (@Kodansha), an event centered on the theme of “Manufacturing in the Near Future,” was held. The event
brought together about 100 middle and high school girls interested in science.

CANVAS led the workshop
“Making Glowing Surprise Cards” during the second part of the event. The tool
used was AgIC, a pen that can draw electronic circuits.

Rather than just drawing a circuit, making an LED light up, and calling it a day… we structured the activity so that participants could experience the joy
of making things on a deeper level.

For example:
• Iterative trial and error… When things don’t go as planned, I “think on my feet” while creating to figure out how to make it work. • Designing
communication… I imagine how the recipient will feel when they receive the card, and design something tangible that touches people’s hearts. • Presenting work
within the group… I articulate my own work to an outside audience, and by observing what others have created, we discover each other’s strengths and share them.

Even though
they were all using the same tool, each student created a truly unique piece of work!!
It seems that using AgIC—a tool with a slightly futuristic feel—made
electronic circuits feel more accessible.
Moreover, having
a tool that allows them to draw circuits broadened their range of expression, and they were able to experience
firsthand how
technology not only makes our lives more convenient but also makes
everyday life more enjoyable.

I'm even more excited to see what the future holds for Mirai Rikejo!
