Special Event for Disability Awareness Week at the Hikifune Library in Sumida Ward

From a CANVAS Facebook post

*******************************************

Today, Sunday, December 4, we held a
programming workshop as part of the special events for Disability Awareness Week at the Hikifune Library in Sumida Ward!
Using the ScratchJr app, we created animations!
With support from the team at Salesforce.org,
who are collaborating with us on our STEM education project, 15 children and their parents participated.

Take on a variety of animation challenges based on different themes from Level 1 to Level 3!
What kind of movements will you have your cat perform?
In [Level 1], you'll learn to skillfully combine movement blocks with blocks that change the cat's appearance.

"The Chase Between the Crab and the Fly—Who Will Win?
" In [Level 2], we'll add backgrounds, speech bubbles, and sound effects to make the story even more engaging.
By this point, everyone's work is starting to show its own unique style.

For the final [Level 3] activity, the children chose one of five prompts and created their own stories.
Even when working on the same prompt, their approaches varied widely. At the
final presentation, five children shared their stories.
For the “Battle Between a Dragon and a Wizard” prompt, children created many
different story continuations—
some used changes in size to represent damage,
others used their voices to convey the ferocity of the battle, and in one story, the dragon vanished at the end. In the “Going Home” stories, I could sense their attention to detail in adjusting distances and timing the delivery
of lines.
Furthermore, in the piece titled “Fairies Celebrating Field Trip Day,” the children created a sparkling effect by repeatedly
hiding and revealing
star icons.

We will also be holding
workshops at Hikifune Library in collaboration with the team at Salesforce.org.

*The curriculum for this workshop is also featured on "Computer Science for ALL," a platform for
programming education.
