- [Report] Talk Show & Hands-On Session for MESH, a Digital Maker Tool
From a CANVAS Facebook post
*******************************************
Yesterday, Tuesday, March 8, we held a talk show and hands-on workshop for the digital maker tool MESH!
We were joined by a diverse group of participants, including people interested in MESH, those who run workshops for children, middle and high school teachers, and college professors.
We invited Mr. Hagiwara and Mr. Zenzumi from the MESH development team to join a talk session with Mr. Kumai from CANVAS, where we heard behind-the-scenes stories about development and learned tips on coming up with ideas for using MESH to make daily life more fun. When you use MESH to add interactive capabilities to
everyday “things,” a wide variety of ideas emerge—some make life more convenient, while others result in quirky and entertaining outcomes.
We also shared tips for generating ideas and taking your projects to the next level from the parent-child workshop held by CANVAS in Osaka, using the slides from the event as a reference.
It’s not just about enjoying MESH’s features—if you observe your surroundings and ask yourself questions like, “What could I add to make things more convenient?” or “How do
people behave?” your creativity will expand.
Looking at the projects created during the workshop, I’m always amazed by the unique perspectives each child brings.
Examples of how university students incorporate MESH into their classes were also full of ideas for making everyday campus life even more enjoyable.
We invited participants to try their hand at creating projects by combining MESH with everyday materials, and we exchanged ideas on how to use it in workshops and classes.
Questions and opinions flew back and forth, such as: “Working in pairs sparks more ideas than working alone!”
“When I was working alone, I got stuck after just playing with the features, but hearing others’ ideas gave me a new one!”
“Does each person need their own set?”
“How can we motivate students to come up with ideas?” and so on.
Even after the event ended, we still had more to talk about, so it turned into an opportunity for us to discuss future plans one-on-one.
We’d like to continue hosting gatherings where adults can come together!
