Children’s Media Lab Vol. 9: “Children and Architecture”

■Children’s Media Lab Vol. 9: “Children and Architecture”

The Children’s Media Lab is a learning space for adults that takes a comprehensive look at the relationship between children and media to create new value.
The theme of our 9th session is “Children and Architecture.” Our
guest speaker will be Taku Hibino of “Hibino Design + Castle for Young Children,” who has designed numerous early childhood facilities and has captivated not only children but people around the world.

“I’ve never seen a kindergarten (daycare center) like this!”
A school building that captures your heart the moment you lay eyes on it, with a sense of excitement—just like visiting an amusement park for the first time—that never fades.
Mr. Hibino’s magic touch creates a beautiful and sacred landscape where nature and the building blend in perfect harmony.
Specializing in the design of kindergarten facilities, “Hibino Design + Castle of Early Childhood” has designed over 350 school buildings to date and won numerous awards, including nine titles at the 9th Kids Design Award in 2015.
A kindergarten where water collects when it rains, allowing children to play in the water indoors.
A daycare center with lush green lawns and a cozy wooden deck.
A childcare center with a rooftop terrace overlooking the ocean that serves as a playground for the children.
These facilities, where children can grow freely, be energetic, and simply be children, captivate not only the children themselves but everyone who sees them.
We’d like to speak with Mr. Hibino—who is inundated with requests from around the world—about his past work, his future creative endeavors, and the meticulous attention to detail and passion that go into designing these facilities.
A school building you’ll never forget once you see it.
As we listen to Mr. Hibino—who has been creating such innovative and heartwarming school buildings for many years—we’ll reflect on the future of children and architecture.
We hope you enjoy it!
