[Kids Creative Research Institute at Meiji University]

On Sunday, September 13, we held the “Research Institute at Meiji University” event!

At CANVAS, we offer programs provided by a variety of artists and experts!
This time, we’re featuring a program provided by the Fukasawa Art Institute! Using
everyday items like flyers and newspapers, we created a variety of unique worlds right inside the room.

First, we made the “sticks” that would serve as our materials for this project.
This time, we started by making the materials ourselves.
We just kept wrapping flyers and newspaper around pencils over and over… Some kids figured out how to make
them quickly and in large quantities; others focused on making them beautifully and carefully; some took breaks here and there, saying, “I’m tired!”; and others saw a flyer featuring tonkatsu and exclaimed, “That looks delicious!”—which sparked a lively conversation.

Once you have the sticks as materials, use them to create your own projects.
For preschoolers, explore the world that extends beyond “home.” For elementary school
students, explore the world that extends beyond “stick figures.”

Some built two-story houses, made smoke come out of chimneys, paid close attention to the poses of their stick figures, or created houses that looked exactly like their own homes—while others simply kept making sticks over and over again…
Even with the same materials, each child created a unique world of their own. Some children were particular about the colors of the flyers and newspaper, saying things like, “I want to make it using only
white sticks!” or “I want to make it using only
newspaper sticks!
”

This was the final session of our three-month series that began in July.
Thank you so much for the past three months!
I look forward to seeing all of our young researchers again!

Registration is now open for the three-month series starting in October.
We sincerely look forward to seeing you there!
