[Report] Kids Creative Lab in Shibuya

From a CANVAS Facebook post

*******************************************

[Kids Creative Lab in Shibuya: Workshops for Children and Adults] On Sunday, May 3—right in the middle of
Golden Week—we held our monthly “Kids Creative Lab in Shibuya” event at Mixi, Inc.!
This is a lab where parents also participate, and we enjoy the experience together while valuing both the children’s and adults’ perspectives.

The May program features workshops using the “Pikke” series of software for iPads and computers.
Pikke is a hugely popular series for children created by artist Tamie Asakura, who developed it with the hope of fostering a joyful connection between children and computers.
In the preschool class, parents and children worked together to create picture books using “Pikke’s Picture Book Maker.”
During the storytime session in front of the group, some children happily explained their collaborative efforts, saying, “I came up with this part, and Mom came up with this part!”

In the elementary school class, students used “Pikke’s Presentation Maker” to create presentations imagining what products they’d like to see—as if they were developers themselves. Ideas included a refrigerator that produces
anything, a toilet that lets you travel through time, and a pencil that makes dreams come true…When the
children and adults took turns giving their presentations, the room buzzed with excitement as everyone expressed admiration for each other’s ideas with comments like, “I see!” and “That’s great—I want one!”

The Kids Creative Institute in Shibuya is currently accepting registrations through September!
You can sign up for as few as one session of our diverse programs, which change every month. We look forward to your registrations!
