[Kids' Town COBO Workshop Series]
On April 29, we held “Kids’ Town COBO,” a monthly event held at COSUGI-COBO.
The theme was “Programming.”
Today’s preschool class is for children accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Using “Biscuit,” a program that lets them bring their own drawings to life on a tablet, the children will learn programming through play.

First, we drew pictures of fish and made them swim in the ocean on our tablets.
Everyone was surprised to see their drawings come to life!
But when they looked closely, they noticed that the fish were swimming in different directions and at different speeds.
What was the difference? How could they change the speed at which the fish swam?
There were even moments when kids peered at each other’s tablets and discussed their ideas with their neighbors.
Finally, we brought all the sea creatures everyone had drawn together onto a large screen to swim, creating a huge, vast ocean right here at COSUGI-COBO.

The elementary school class is a workshop using “Scratch.” With
Scratch, you can program by arranging blocks, allowing you to create your very own games and animations.
Today, we’re all working together to create a game where a mouse runs away from a cat.
Although many of the children were using Scratch for the first time, they were all focused and having fun while learning the basics of programming. Toward the end of the
workshop, they were creating their very own games—changing the cat’s running speed, adding lots of mice,
and more.

This marks the second installment of the Kids’ Town COBO Workshop Series.
For this session, we held a workshop on the topic of “programming”—a subject that might seem a little challenging at first, but is actually very relevant to our daily lives.
Here at COSUGI-COBO, we’ll continue to host workshops on a variety of themes!
Next month’s program involves making your very own instrument and performing live with professional musicians!
