We received a photo report from Mr. Sato of the Obihiro Robot Project in Hokkaido on the “Raspberry Pi Idea Contest” held on Sunday, February 8, so we’d like to share it with you!
As part of the Obihiro Robot Project, we distributed Raspberry Pi devices to 17 participants in December and, after confirming their basic operation, worked on creating projects leading up to February. The participants were students in grades 1 through 6. They gave presentations on what they had learned over the course of approximately two months.
The photo shows the children presenting their artwork.

The judges consisted of a teacher from a technical high school, a teacher from a vocational school, and three software engineers. I heard that the
staff and judges were also asked to create sample projects using Raspberry Pi.
There were many entries from adults as well, including traffic lights at intersections, room lamps controlled by relays, and a rock-paper-scissors game.
Starting in April, the Obihiro Robot Project will hold a monthly “Open Day” at its “Monozukuri Lab,” where children can experience programming for free. Yet another place where kids can enjoy programming is being created!
