Here’s a report on the Kids Creative Lab held at Meiji on Sunday, April 12!
For the first lab session of the year, we used colorful materials to make our very own “fake hands,” and then played together using them!

First, the children carefully observed their own hands before making a “fake hand.”
What color are the fingers? What about the palm? They took their time creating their “fake hands” while comparing them to their real hands. In the preschool class, the children used
their “fake hands” to high-five their friends and shake hands with their parents’ real hands!
As they communicated using their “fake” and “real” hands, the slightly different sensations naturally brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
In the elementary school class, students played rock-paper-scissors with their friends using their “fake hands” and gripped various objects just as they would with their real hands.

They created new colors by layering different hues and took the “fake hand” concept a step further by shaping it to resemble an apple tree.
It was impressive to see how they came up with all sorts of creative ideas through their interactions with the materials and as they worked with their hands.

In April, as the new school year began, many children joined us at the research institute for the first time.
To all our young researchers: We look forward to working with you over the next three months!
