The team at e-Topia Kagawa, with whom we recently co-hosted the Kagawa Gathering, held a Raspberry Pi workshop on Saturday, March 28.
The workshop was titled “Making Music with Raspberry Pi.” Participants tried their hand at creating “The Frog’s Song (Round)” using Scratch on Raspberry Pi, a piece featured in the book *Exciting Programming for Elementary School Students*, authored by Professor Abe and under Supervision by PEG!
<Workshop Content
> ① Learn how to produce “sound” using a Raspberry Pi and Scratch.
② Use Scratch to create and perform the song “Frog Chorus.”
③ Once the song from step ② is complete, modify the program for the accompaniment (played with the left hand).
④ Once step ③ is complete, add code to make it a round.
⑤ Once step ④ is complete, add code so that a cat walks during the performance and stops when the song ends.
I imagine it was quite a challenge to adjust the pitch one note at a time and figure out the number of beats, but I hear everyone successfully performed “The Frog’s Song” with accompaniment.
While the Raspberry Pi tends to throw off the rhythm a bit, I’m sure the beautiful tones resonated beautifully!
I heard that a child who had purchased a Raspberry Pi 2 that day had a question.
Since the child brought the actual device, the staff at e-Topia Kagawa checked it and resolved the issue.
I was so happy to hear that the child is working hard on their own while reading Professor Abe’s book, *Exciting Programming with Raspberry Pi*!
e-Topia Kagawa plans to hold another Raspberry Pi event next year! We can’t wait to see what kinds of projects will be created!
