As I mentioned in my post last week, I’ve received a photo and video report from Mr. Yasunaga at Fablab Kannai—one of our PEG partners—about the “MakingRobot MEG” collaboration workshop with Kawai Juku Dalton School, so I’d like to share it here along with my comments!
***
PEGxPEG Collaboration on March 14, 2015: We held a workshop for first- and fourth-graders at
Kawai Juku Dalton School.
MakingRobotWorkshop is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Art) educational program that involves soldering, wiring, programming, and actually operating electronic components.
Using Raspberry Pi units provided by PEG, FabLab Kannai developed a custom Fabbot/MEG for the Dalton School that also features a built-in speaker. Although the workshop went well beyond the scheduled time of 2 hours plus 1.5 hours, everyone stayed focused and enjoyed the workshop right until the very end!
This robot features custom parts created using everyday digital fabrication tools—such as 3D printers and laser cutters—attached to the clear body of a standard beverage cup, with meticulous attention paid to the color and aesthetic arrangement of the wiring. We hope you’ll enjoy customizing it further by modifying it
yourself or adding sensors to make it truly your own.

We also received a video of the event.
It’s impressive to see how focused everyone is on the detailed soldering work.
Be sure to check out the video as well!
