- [Report] Programming Lab in Roppongi
From a CANVAS Facebook post
*******************************************
The other day, on Sunday, February 22, we held “Programming Lab in Roppongi” at GREE, where participants tried their hand at creating games through programming!
This time, we’re making a game that tracks results!
By recording and saving results—such as completion times and points earned—players can compete with friends, challenge themselves to set new records, and enjoy the game in many different ways.
In this session, we worked on a game where a cat character counts how many times you can rapidly tap a button within a time limit. We used the “List” block in Scratch to program a scoring feature, which helped us understand how the system works.
At the game showcase, they presented the games—including one where players compete to see how many cherry blossom petals they can catch, another where players collect mushrooms while avoiding poisonous ones, and a third where character comments change and hidden stages appear depending on the player’s score—and shared the meticulous attention to detail that went into everything from the design to the music.
At the end, we set aside time for participants to try to beat the high scores set by their friends’ games, making for an incredibly lively workshop!
Next month's Programming Lab in Roppongi will be held on Sunday, March 22.
This time, we'll be trying our hand at collaborative projects. We're currently accepting participants!!
