[Classroom Practice Report @ Itabashi Municipal Mukaihara Junior High School]
We received a report on the open class from Professor Sato of Saitama University Graduate School, a PEG partner school!

Professor Sato is conducting classroom research at the Department of Technology Education in the Graduate School of Education at Saitama University.
He has provided us with a report on a class held on Tuesday, January 13, at Itabashi Municipal Mukaihara Junior High School, one of our partner schools.
The photo shows plants growing through photosynthesis in a simple hydroponic system illuminated by LED lights.

In actual plant factories, factors such as light, water, and temperature are controlled by computers.
To give the students a simulated experience of a plant factory, they used Scratch to create a program that measures temperature using a temperature sensor mounted on a breadboard and emits a warning sound when the temperature gets too high. When they connected the circuit to the GPIO and the cat meowed in response to the temperature just as the program was designed to do, the students reportedly cheered!

I hear they plan to learn about controlling the LEDs used for the plants and managing water levels in conjunction with water level sensors.
I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next!
