[Report] After-School Creative Project

From a CANVAS Facebook post

[After-School Creative Project] To help make after-school time a fulfilling experience for children in
after-school programs,
CANVAS staff continue to conduct workshops at numerous after-school programs and children’s centers.

On Saturday, September 27, I visited the Nakano Ward Ehara After-School Club.
I arrived at the club early, before the workshop was scheduled to start, and was setting up when I could feel the excitement of the children—they were saying things like, “That’s a singing microphone, right?”
and “Wow, balloons! What are you going to do with those!?”

The photo shows the scene as I was preparing.

At the beginning of the workshop, I asked everyone a question:
“Does anyone know what sound is, or how we hear it?”
Two participants gave wonderful presentations, so I’d like to share what they said.

"Sounds like birds chirping and the wind."
"The sound of cars driving by. A light drizzle sounds different from a heavy downpour."

Children may be much
more aware of sounds than we realize, and they may spend their days listening intently to all kinds of sounds.
