KMD 2.0

Under its new organizational structure, the KMD Research Institute has already established four research centers.

KMD 2.0 is doing great!

New research initiatives are launching one after another, including the Fusion Industry Research Center, the Research Center for the Design of a Quantum Future Society, and KEIO-RRI on ELSI.

In addition to its existing "joint research and contract research" programs, KMD has established two new industry-academia collaboration frameworks.

■ Research Centers

It is a co-creation-based research organization in which diverse stakeholders—including businesses, universities, government agencies, and citizens—participate to address issues that affect society as a whole.

How can we build a more desirable future society that goes beyond the interests of specific companies or organizations?

We aim to be a “co-creation engine for shaping the future,” where industry, academia, government, and the private sector come together at the same table to envision the future—not only through the creation of technology and design, but also with a view toward their implementation in systems, policies, and culture—and bring those visions to life in society.

■ Joint Labs (Co-creation Labs)

This is a new framework for industry-academia collaboration in which a single company teams up with multiple KMD research labs and faculty members to conduct research and development based on social issues and a vision for the future.

By integrating KMD’s diverse expertise—including design, technology, management, and policy—across disciplines, we work together to create new products, services, businesses, and social systems.

■ Joint Research (Collaborative Research and Contract Research)

And, of course, we continue to promote our existing collaborative and contract research projects.

Industry-academia collaboration, which has the power to transform society, is at the core of KMD.

By combining the expertise of each faculty member with the challenges and implementation capabilities of companies, local governments, and organizations, we will create new technologies, industries, and social value through prototype development, social experiments, and service design.

So, "I'd like to do research with KMD on a topic like this."

"It hasn't become a research topic yet, but could we work together to create a future like this?"

We always warmly welcome such companies, local governments, and organizations.

Let’s transform KMD from a place where research is confined to the university into a place where diverse people come together to envision, create, and implement the future in society.

KMD 2.0 is starting to take shape in various ways.

(Just sharing some work-related updates for a change, as befits the Director of KMD Research Institute ^^)
