“Creating an Exciting Future Together” B Lab

"Creating an Exciting Future Together"—B Lab.

B Lab, which had been based at iU, has now been transferred to the KMD Research Institute at Keio University, where it has been reestablished as a research center under my leadership as its director.

B Lab. The “B” stands for Borderless, Beyond, and Breakthrough.

Opening up new possibilities and transforming society.

With the transfer to KMD, the meaning of “B” has also been updated

Boundary / Borderless: Crossing boundaries.

Bridge / Base: Connecting different people and knowledge to serve as a foundation for co-creation.

Build / Beyond: Not just envisioning the future, but actually building it and moving beyond it.

Breakthrough: Breaking through existing frameworks and the very foundations of society.

B Lab aims not only to “think about” the future, but also to “create” it.

From frontier technologies such as AI, XR, quantum computing, and space exploration, to content, neurodiversity, well-being, education, cities, policy, and emerging industries.

Without limiting ourselves to any specific field, we will span technology, design, policy, education, and other disciplines to envision, create, test, and implement the future in society.

We will create an open research community called “Researchers for Everyone,” where not only researchers but also companies, local governments, creators, citizens, students, and others can participate, and we will connect with universities and research institutions around the world.

Innovation × Incubation.

It’s not just about conducting research and stopping there; it’s about nurturing new projects and ventures from that point and bringing them to fruition in society.

I am truly grateful to iU, which took an interest in our concept—which was still just an abstract idea when B Lab was first launched—and gave us the opportunity to take on the challenge and say, “Let’s give it a try.”

And this time, following the organizational changes at iU, we’d also like to thank KMD for taking on all of B Lab’s activities, projects, and network.

I hope to further develop B Lab while building on what we’ve built so far.

B Lab@KMD is up and running.

So, we're looking for people who want to join us in creating an exciting future! ^^
